I was appointed to Salmon Creek United Methodist in July of 2013. This is my first time serving a United Methodist congregation. It has been a joy to pursue the Wesleyan Way of my Mother's ancestors. I am an ordained Presbyterian pastor (PCUSA) with my husband the Rev. David Emery. He is now the Pastor at Fern Prairie United Methodist in Fern Prairie, Camas.
I grew up in Puyallup, WA and graduated from Seattle Pacific University. Both of my parents were Presbyterian pastors with other interesting careers as well. A profound call to ordained ministry happened for me while at San Francisco Seminary with my husband David. We would be ordained together on November 1, 1981 by Seattle Presbytery. We have raised four children (a girl and three boys) and shared ministry in California, Colorado, New Jersey, and the Seattle area. While in Seattle I served as Transitional Executive for the Synod of Alaska-Northwest covering all of Washington, Northern Idaho and Alaska. I now enjoy the collegiality of the United Methodist Church and the profound commitment for personal holiness ("how is it with your soul?") and proactive engagement with the issues of society. I am always eager for a good old fashioned and deep conversation. I want to help leaders create safe places for people of all ages to have profound conversations about things of life that really matter.
My greatest passion has been focused on renewal of congregations and starting new worshipping communities so that congregations can meet people where they are with the amazing good news of God's love exhibited to us in Jesus the Christ.
I enjoy Jazzercise, gardening, quilting, being a good neighbor, a good book, (American Pickers - a television show), hosting family gatherings, serving my 95 year old Mother, singing in harmony, riding my bike on the Salmon Creek Trail, and sharing in the love and nurture of our eight grandchildren.
I received my M.Div. from San Francisco Theological Seminary as a part of the Graduate Theological Union, San Anselmo and Berkeley, California.
My D.Min. degree was granted by Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey
I am a Certified Christian Educator in the PCUSA and trained as a Mediator by the Lombard Peace Center.
